ChemCeed Corrosion Inhibitors

Corrosion Inhibitors

Corrosion inhibitors are substances applied to an environment that significantly reduces the corrosion rate of materials, particularly metals, exposed to that environment.  Corrosion inhibitors can greatly extend the lifespan of equipment and reduce repair costs due to corrosive damage.  They can also reduce cleaning costs, improve performance, and optimize operational efficiencies.

There are several types of corrosion inhibitors:

Anodic Inhibitors – Forms a protective oxide film on the surface of the metal

Cathodic Inhibitors – Slows down the cathodic reaction; protect the cathode by reacting first

Mixed Inhibitors – Both film-forming and reaction reduction; most commonly used

Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors (VCI) – Forms a very thin protective film to the site of corrosion in a closed environment

ChemCeed offers a number of corrosion inhibitors for use in many applications.  Our most popular products include:

Benzotriazole (BTA)

  • Specifically used for copper and copper alloys
  • Commonly used in water cooling systems

Dodecanedioic Acid (DDDA)

  • Commonly used as a ferrous corrosion inhibitor in metal working fluids, engine coolants, metal cleaners, aqueous hydraulic fluids, and die-cast release agents
  • Improves oxidative resistance in metal working fluids; suitable for most grinding processes

Sebacic Acid (SBA) – Granular / Powder

  • Used in metal working fluids by forming a thin coating on the metal which restricts access by corrosive ions

Sodium Tolytriazole 50% (TT50)

  • Commonly used as a corrosion inhibitor for yellow metals, such as copper and copper alloys
  • Most frequently used in alkaline environments, such as for engine coolants and cleaners, metal working fluids, cooling towers, inks and cleaners
  • Used to protect copper piping in industrial water systems

Tolytriazole (TTA)

  • Adheres to the surface of copper, forming a strong electrochemical barrier to protect against corrosive ions
  • High degree of thermal and oxidative stability
  • Commonly used in circulating water systems, brake and hydraulic fluids, automotive coolants, metal working fluids, and other specialty lubricants

Undecanedioic Acid (UDDA)

  • When used in a mixture of other dibasic acids, UDDA is effective as a ferrous corrosion inhibitor for metal working fluids, engine coolants, metal cleaners, and aqueous hydraulic fluids
