Application
Tertiary Butyl Hydroquinone (TBHQ) is a food-grade synthetic antioxidant used to stabilize oils, fats, foods, and cosmetics against oxidative deterioration, effectively extending shelf life by preventing rancidity. Especially effective in highly unsaturated vegetable oils and edible animal fats, TBHQ maintains product quality without causing discoloration in the presence of iron or imparting odor or flavor. Available in pure powder form and certified halal and kosher, it is suitable for a wide range of food applications within regulatory limits. In rubber applications, TBHQ acts as a retarder for peroxide cure systems. It shows good scorch retarding properties and will improve the safe processing time during curing. It is effective for use in EPDM, TPE, FKM, as well as other elastomers.
