Application
Salicylic Acid is a monohydroxybenzoic acid, classified as both a phenolic acid and a beta hydroxy acid, and is widely recognized for its diverse roles in medicine, cosmetics, and organic synthesis. This colorless crystalline organic acid, derived from the metabolism of salicin, also functions naturally as a plant hormone. Historically valued for its ability to relieve aches, pains, and fevers, salicylic acid has been used since ancient times for its anti-inflammatory and therapeutic properties. Today, it is best known as a key ingredient in topical acne treatments and as an important active metabolite of aspirin. Its esters and salts, known as salicylates, are incorporated into various medicinal formulations, with derivatives such as methyl salicylate commonly used in rubefacient products to soothe joint and muscle pain.
