Application
N,N-Dimethylformamide (DMF) is an essentially neutral solvent capable of dissolving a wide variety of organic compounds. It is used for vinyl resins in lacquers, films, and printing inks, as well as for polyurethanes, pigments, dyes, and inorganic salts. DMF also serves as both a catalyst and solvent in numerous organic reactions, including halogenation, alkylation, elimination, and cyclization, and is employed as a reaction medium in dye production. Additionally, it functions as a selective refining solvent for acetylene, acid gases, and petroleum constituents such as butadiene, and as an electrolyte in certain types of capacitors.
