Application
n-Pentane is a straight-chain hydrocarbon from the alkane group with the chemical formula C₅H₁₂, representing the unbranched isomer of the pentane family. While nearly insoluble in water, it demonstrates excellent solubility and unlimited miscibility with a wide range of organic solvents including paraffins, ethers, esters, aromatics, and chlorinated hydrocarbons. Like other alkanes, n-pentane is an effective solvent for non-polar substances. In its highly pure, aromatics-free form, it is particularly valued in the pharmaceutical industry, where it is used for the purification of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
