Application
n-Butyl Alcohol (1-Butanol) is a four-carbon straight chain oxo alcohol and medium-boiling liquid valued both as a chemical intermediate and as a solvent in coatings. It is widely used as an etherification alcohol in the production of amino resins, which serve as curing agents in baking and physical drying finishes. In addition, it functions as an effective latent solvent for cellulosic lacquers and ambient-cured enamels, helping to reduce formulation viscosity while enhancing flow and leveling during film formation. Known for its excellent reactivity as an intermediate, n-Butyl Alcohol also improves flow and gloss in cellulose lacquers and amino baking finishes. With a slow evaporation rate, inert behavior for both food (with limitations) and non-food uses, and favorable environmental attributes—being non-HAP and readily biodegradable—it is a versatile and reliable solvent for a wide range of industrial applications.
