Application
N-Butyl Acetate is a medium-boiling ester solvent widely valued for its versatility and performance in coatings and industrial applications. This colorless liquid with a mild, fruity odor demonstrates excellent solvent activity and compatibility with numerous film formers, including cellulose acetate butyrate, nitrocellulose, polyesters, epoxies, alkyds, vinyl copolymers, and acrylic resins. It is extensively used in nitrocellulose lacquers, where it promotes resin solubility and delivers smooth flow properties, as well as in urethane-grade 2-K polyurethane coatings to optimize both drying time and film formation. With a medium evaporation rate (set at 1) and low surface tension, it provides quick-drying performance without blushing under typical conditions. Additional advantages include low MIR value, high electrical resistance, low water solubility, and environmental compliance, as it is non-HAP, non-SARA, REACH compliant, and readily biodegradable. These properties make N-Butyl Acetate a reliable, efficient, and environmentally responsible solvent choice for demanding coating systems.
