Application

MPac CP-8-AB is an acid base (intermediate) for the manufacture of water soluble, synthetic corrosion inhibitors. It is designed to have a relatively low pH and high acid content, which provides the ability to formulate fluid concentrates with any alkalinity source. The low pH makes MPac CP-8-AB an excellent starting material when formulating fluids for use on aluminum or other metals where a higher pH can contribute to discoloration of their surfaces. It is also highly effective for cast iron and steel alloys when the pH is adjusted to 8.0 or higher. MPac CP-8-AB is virtually non-foaming and has excellent stability in hard water (up to 1500 ppm as CaCO3). At higher concentrations, MPac CP-8-AB will function as a lubricant.
MPac CP-8-AB is composed of a mixture of organic acid salts, but is not based on PTBBA or nitrites. It is diethanolamine free. This product can be waste treated by simply adjusting the pH below the methyl orange endpoint.
MPac CP-8-AB can be used in metalworking fluid formulations, water/glycol or other water based industrial fluids, hard surface cleaners and forming and drawing compounds. It is compatible with most commonly used materials for compounding these types of products, including glycols and polyalkylene glycols, alcohols, surfactants, alkaline builders, etc. If using acidic additives, the pH must be adjusted to 6.4 or above to maintain stability and to 8.0 or above to obtain maximum anti-corrosion efficiency on ferrous surfaces. Suggested treatment level for end use is as low as 0.1% depending on the end use product application and pH of the fluid.
