Application
Methyl methacrylate (MMA) is a monomer and comonomer for various applications in areas such as paints, coatings, adhesives, and plastic. MMA enhances the glass transition temperature (Tg) in copolymers. It also improves imparts properties such as hardness, durability, strength, transparency, UV resistance, and abrasion resistance. A major use for MMA is in the production of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) homopolymers for acrylic plastics. It is also used for the production of the co-polymer methyl methacrylate-butadiene-styrene (MBS), which is used as a modifier for PVC. MMA is a chemical intermediate in the production of coating polymers, construction chemicals and textile applications. Its derivates include ethyl methacrylate (EMA), butyl methacrylate (BMA) and 2-ethyl hexyl methacrylate (2-EHMA).
