Application
Isophthalic acid is a non-toxic, colorless organic compound belonging to the family of aromatic dicarboxylic acids and existing as an isomer of phthalic and terephthalic acids. It serves as a key precursor for a range of commercially important polymers, including alkyd and polyester resins, polyesters for fiberglass-reinforced plastics, and high-performance polymers such as polybenzimidazole. In the form of acyl chlorides, it is used in the production of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) copolymers, which enhance bottle resin clarity and manufacturing efficiency by reducing crystallinity. It is also utilized in unsaturated polyester resins to improve thermal resistance, mechanical performance, and resistance to chemicals and water, as well as in polyester and alkyd surface coating resins to increase water resistance, durability, and weatherability.
