Application
Ethylhexyl Oleate (EHO), also known as octyl oleate, is a long-chain fatty acid monoester that functions effectively as a Group V base fluid and lubricity additive in metalworking fluids. Its biodegradability and low toxicity profile make it particularly well-suited for environmentally friendly lubricants, including hydraulic fluids, greases, and metalworking formulations. With its polar nature, EHO adheres to metal surfaces to form a protective friction barrier, enhancing antiwear performance. It features low viscosity, a high viscosity index (VI), and offers excellent thermal and hydrolytic stability, making it a valuable component in industrial lubricants. Additional applications include its use as a plasticizer in inks, an antiwear additive, and as an emollient in personal care products, where it contributes to low-temperature performance in lower polarity polymers.
