Application
Dimethyl Carbonate (DMC) is a colorless, fast evaporating VOC-exempt solvent. DMC has substantial polar nature, and moderate h-bonding strength effective in replacing esters, glycol ethers and ketones in formulations. It has a fast evaporation rate, similar to MEK and toluene. It also has low toxicity, an unobjectionable methanol type odor and low skin irritation. DMC is useful in acrylics, urethane and alkyd systems as a co-solvent. It is partially soluble in water, and dissolves most coating resins.
