Application
Diisobutyl Phthalate (DIBP) is an almost colorless, odorless to slightly aromatic oily liquid used primarily as a plasticizer to enhance flexibility in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastics. It serves as a cost-effective alternative to dibutyl phthalate (DBP), offering similar performance with lower production costs. DIBP is also widely used in inks, coatings, lacquers, adhesives, and protective coatings based on cellulose acetate, ethyl cellulose, and vinyl polymers. It is particularly effective as a low-cost plasticizer for cellulose nitrate and polyvinyl acetate emulsion paints. With lower specific gravity and freezing point than DBP, DIBP's versatility extends to processing and applications involving nitrile rubbers.
