Application
2.2′-Dithiobis(Benzothiazole) (MBTS) is a non-staining, primary thiazole accelerator widely used in both natural and synthetic rubber compounds. It exhibits high activity at temperatures above 280°F. For effective curing, MBTS requires activation with zinc oxide, a fatty acid, and sulfur. When used alongside secondary accelerators such as aldehyde amines, dithiocarbamates, guanidines, or thiurams, MBTS can significantly enhance cure rates. In addition to its role as an accelerator, MBTS also functions as a retarder in polychloroprene and peroxide cure systems, helping to control scorch and processing safety.
