Application

1,2-Dichloroethane, also known as Ethylene Dichloride (EDC), is a chlorinated hydrocarbon primarily used in the production of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM or chloroethene)—the key building block for manufacturing PVC (polyvinyl chloride). This compound is a colorless liquid with an odor similar to chloroform. In addition to its role in PVC production, 1,2-Dichloroethane is commonly used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other organic chemicals and also serves as a solvent in various industrial processes.
