Trioctyl Phosphate (TOF) is a viscous, clear to pale yellow plasticizer with a slight pungent odor. TOF can also be used as a fire retardant and solvent.
As a plasticizer, TOF is compatible with many types of polymers such as PVC, PUR, NBR, and SBR. TOF can be used as a component of vinyl stabilizers, grease additives, and flame-proofing compositions for vinyl plastic and synthetic rubber compounds.
As a fire retardant TOF is used in various consumer products such as clothing.
As a solvent TOF is used in the production of hydrogen peroxide. It is soluble in alcohol, acetone, and ether. However, TOF is insoluble in water.
Some other uses include as a carrier in the manufacture of pigments for plastics and as an additive for mineral oils, vinyl, and synthetic rubbers. This is to impart or enhance light stability. TOF also has weather resistant properties and a good resistance to low temperatures.
More than 10 million pounds of Trioctyl Phosphate is produced worldwide each year with 3 million produced in the United States. ChemCeed offers this product packaged in 55-gallon drums, totes, and bulk quantities. Please contact your ChemCeed Sales Representative about custom packaging and for more information.
