Diisodecyl Phthalate (DIDP) is an oily, viscous general-purpose PVC Plasticizer with a mild odor. DIDP has a high-molecular-weight phthalate with good permanence and high temperature performance. This makes it a plasticizer of choice in flexible PVC products that call for low fogging. DIDP is also offers good outdoor weathering making it useful in roofing membranes and tarpaulins.
Diisodecyl Phthalate provides an increased electrical resistivity for some PVC products that it is added to resulting in better insulation properties for the compound. Diisodecyl Phthalate also provides flexibility in lower temperatures, giving it advantages to other plasticizers for products for use in low temperature environments. DIDP ‘s characteristics work well in wire and cable applications, automobile undercoating, and automotive interior parts.
DIDP is often found in toys, shoes, carpet backing, pool liners, and other artificial leather applications. Other end uses for DIDP in PVC include calendaring, extrusions, injection molding, and other plastisol applications. DIDP can be a great substitute for Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DOP) in most flexible PVC applications. Along with PVC applications DIDP can be used with other non-PVC polymers such as polyurethanes or polyacrylates used in coatings, sealants and mastic applications.
