Butyl Benzyl Phthalate (BBP) is a clear oily plasticizer with a slight odor and moderate solubility in water. It is a high solvating, fast fusing material with high efficiency that can be used in a variety of resins. BBP is often valued for its low viscosity allowing for processing at low temperatures. BBP can be used by itself or blended with other general-purpose plasticizers for better plasticizing efficiency and faster fusion.
One of the largest uses of BBP is in the production of vinyl tiles. Not only is BBP used in vinyl tiles but it is used in a wide variety of plastic and resin applications. These include PVC calendaring, extrusion operations, white glue, acrylic caulks, adhesives, sealants, and more. BBP can be utilized in processes like case hardening, cleaning/purging, and as a carrier for biocides, pigments, and other additives.
BBP is found in a wide variety of products as well. Some of these include carpet tile, artificial leather, tarps, automotive trim, weather stripping and traffic cones.
