With the pandemic starting in 2020 no one really expected it to last as long as it did and to have as big of an effect on our lives as it did. Many had only heard the term quarantine in books and movies and have never experienced the isolation that it would bring. With each new challenge brought to them ChemCeed’s team tries to find the silver lining and COVID was not going to change that. To brighten up their days social distancing and quarantining, each team member explored new hobbies, found new joy in old hobbies, and tried their best to enjoy the time they had.
Katrina got busy DIY-ing in her house. “I decided that now was a good time to start remodeling my house. I have learned how to install flooring, knock down walls and repair odds and ends. It has been very exciting and nerve-racking all at the same time. My daughter has also gotten involved. She loves to help take down the walls.”
Alyssa found a new way to start up an old past time. “I have recently taken up reading again, I even started a reading journal. I write down different quotes and the stats to keep track of how much I am reading and what I liked about the books. It’s been a great creative outlet and my kids love helping me pick my next book!”
Dana tried a range of different things. “For me staying busy with a variety of things really help me cope with all the changes that happened this year, so I took the opportunity to spend a lot of time outside and get in touch with my artistic side again. I did some watercolor painting, rock polishing, epoxy resin casting, and even tried my hand at cooking (to mixed results)!”
Tom rekindled relationships. “I reconnected with my dad and started playing chess with him. He taught me how to play when I was young and during quarantine we started playing online together. He has yet to beat me and I don’t let him forget it.”
Myra used some elbow grease. “Between the stay-at-home mandate and the kids going virtual for school/me working remotely, I have had the opportunity to clean out and reorganize the home office. What once was called “the Bermuda Triangle”, the home office has turned up long lost treasures as 90’s cassette tapes and fun photos from years past. It has been good to de-clutter and compartmentalize memories all at the same time!”
Rolly is learning how to enjoy a hobby at home. ”I have been getting through these times of the pandemic through exercise. I loved going to the gym but ended up getting some small equipment to be able to do my exercise at home and am learning to enjoy my new environment. My family and I have a renewed appreciation for family time daily and have taken up the many old and new activities we can do together.”
Mel enjoyed more time with family. “The time I have been able to spend with my family has been invaluable to me, I really appreciate being able to slow down and enjoy the quality time with them. We have been watching movies as a family and enjoying each other’s company. I have also been able to read more than normal too!”
With the new year upon us and a light shining at the end of the tunnel for the end of the pandemic, it seems that quarantine may soon be a distant memory, but one should never forget the things that got them through a hard time.
