Application

Glycol Ether EB (Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether) is a fast-evaporating, water-soluble solvent with exceptional solvency, coupling, and coalescing properties, making it highly effective across numerous applications. In cleaning formulations, it is a key ingredient in hard surface cleaners, acting as a grease solvent and compatibilizing agent that lowers surface tension—either alone or with surfactants. Its dual functionality, with both an alcohol and an ether component, enables it to dissolve both water- and oil-soluble soils, and its rapid evaporation rate helps prevent streaking. It also functions as a coupling agent to stabilize immiscible ingredients in metal cleaners and vapor degreasers and is used to clarify oil-in-water dispersions. In the paint and coatings industry, Glycol Ether EB promotes film coalescence and provides strong solvency for a wide range of resins including alkyd, phenolic, nitrocellulose, acrylic, epoxy, urethane, and maleic-modified resins. It enhances gloss, improves flow-out, strengthens blush resistance, and prevents surface defects like orange peel formation. Additionally, it serves as a retarder in nitrocellulose lacquers and helps dissolve water-soluble polymers. Glycol Ether EB is also used as a primary solvent in silk screen printing inks, and as a solvent in agricultural formulations such as herbicides and insecticides. Its wide compatibility, low toxicity, and 100% water solubility make it a highly versatile and effective choice across industrial, household, and specialty applications.
