Application
n-Heptane is a fast to medium evaporating aliphatic solvent with excellent solvency for non-polar substances, fats, and oils. Widely used in the pharmaceutical industry, it serves as an inert medium for purification, recrystallization, and washing of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Its chemically inert nature, lacking functional groups, makes it an ideal solvent for sensitive reactions such as the production of synthetic rubbers like polybutadiene in solution. Beyond pharmaceuticals, n-heptane is employed to dilute heavy greases and oils for easier application, and it is also commonly found as a component in paints, varnishes, and adhesives.
