Application
Diethyl Phthalate (DEP) is a colorless liquid with no significant odor, primarily used as a plasticizer and solvent. It is widely applied in products such as automobile parts, tools, food packaging, and is the plasticizer of choice for cellulose acetate. DEP serves as a solvent for organic molecules and is particularly effective in binding cosmetic additives and fragrances that are not water-soluble. Additional uses include its role in the manufacture of mosquito repellents, as a plasticizer in pharmaceutical polymer devices and tablet coatings, and as a stabilizer in solid rocket propellants due to its composition of only carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, making it suitable for combustible applications.
