Renewable Power Source Driving Increases in Lubricants Industry

Renewable, clean power sources are continuing to be the way of the future and have an impact on multiple different industries, the lubricants industry being one of many. Companies in the lubricants industry have started expanding their product lines to take part in the wind turbine market.

Wind turbines require specialized lubricants throughout their operations and maintenance. Gear oil, is the most used and demanded for the turbines. These oils increase reliability and prevent failures. With the growth of this energy source the wind turbines are being built in more extreme conditions. This also creates a need for lubricants that are able to handle cold temperatures and moisture.

In order to minimize maintenance, the industry has begun to shift towards synthetics instead of mineral oils. When using synthetics, they are able to gain a higher wear protection, higher efficiency from friction, and a wider temperature range. They are also able to extend their oil change intervals from months to years. This drives the costs of maintenance and repairs down, especially for wind turbines in remote locations.

ChemCeed takes part in this, indirectly through the many corrosion inhibitors and base oils that we offer. Corrosion inhibitors especially play a role in this area when working in extreme conditions. Polyalphaolefins (PAO) and Dioctyl Sebacate (DOS) are examples of the base oils that ChemCeed is able to offer. Please contact your ChemCeed sales agent if you have any questions regarding corrosion inhibitors or base oils.
